Waiting Game

I'm just over 37 weeks now and we're still waiting on baby Ellington #2 to make his/her entrance into the world.  Unlike Jules, this one is taking things at a slower pace.  Mommy is VERY uncomfortable and VERY ready to meet this little one.  I know every pregnancy is different, just like every baby is different, but I wish this little guy or gal would hurry up already!!!  Here's an update on the past few weeks:

I went to the doctor on Monday, March 8th for my 36 week check up (although I didn't actually turn 36 weeks until Wednesday) and was surprised to find out that I was already 3cm dilated.  For those who have never had a child, this means that the baby is already in position and labor has "technically" started.  With Juliann, I was 3cm on a Monday and had her that Friday, so both my doctor and I thought it could happen at any point during the week.  I was a little nervous because it was still early but was also excited at the thought of finally meeting the little one whose been growing inside me for the past 9 months!  I went to work as usual and with every contraction or bit of pressure got my hopes up a little more that I'd be holding my new baby soon!  When the weekend finally arrived I was a little frustrated and getting more uncomfortable by the day but also figured it was giving baby E a little more time to grow and get healthy, which was a good thing.  I was trying to be positive!

This Monday, the 15th,  I headed back to the doctor for my almost 37 week check up and my doctor was somewhat surprised that I was still pregnant, given my history.  She checked me and told me I was 4-5cm dilated and that it could be any day now.  Yeah, well, that was almost a week ago and still-no baby!  I also didn't know you could walk around that dilated for this long-ugh!  Nothing about being pregnant right now is comfortable-I still have horrible heartburn (even though the baby is lower now), my hands are so swollen I can't wear my rings, my feet are about 5 times their normal size and all I can wear are David's socks and my crocs, I have contractions that come and go (I seriously had contractions that were 7 minutes apart for over 3 hours last night that stopped as quickly as they started), unbelievable pressure from this baby pushing down, and did I mention the varicose veins?!?  Oh the joys of being pregnant!  And since he/she is full term, I'm really REALLY ready for this baby!

Hopefully baby Ellington will arrive soon-tonight would be absolutely fine with me!  However, I'm trying to enjoy what's left of my pregnancy while I wait!  As soon as we have news, I promise we will share it with you all!  In the meantime, think happy thoughts for a healthy baby Ellington to join us SOON!
